Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911 SC (Super Carrera) featured an aluminium 3.0 flat six engine and five speed 915 gearbox. The power was 180 BHP at launch and increased to 204 BHP over its lifecycle.

It was built to appeal to a wider market and was a strong seller for Porsche. A big factor contributing to the strong sales was the enhanced ease of use. This was due to the following:

• A different camshaft design which gave the engine a more tractable low-end.
  • The advantages:
    • The Porsche 911 SC was easier to drive around town and in traffic
    • Fewer downshifts to extract performance.
• The 3.0L flat 6-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection was based on a non turbo version of the 930 Turbo engine and a move to aluminum instead of magnesium enhanced reliability and ability to upgrade in the future
• Servo assisted brakes which provided improved braking performance and better pedal feel.

This Porsche 911 SC is the later production version with the 204 BHP spec 3.0l flat six engine. It was delivered in February 1983 in Johannesburg and moved to Cape Town with its owner around 2000

What makes this example unique is its well preserved condition, the interior in particular, the low mileage reading of 91 000km and finally the registration document (RC1) is still showing "New" status.
