This example was initially delivered to the UK and was then exported to South Africa in 1984. The current owner bought the Mercedes Benz 21 years ago and has kept an extensive maintenance record on file. This file reflects that the engine of this example was replaced at some point with a correct 2.8l 6 cylinder engine. This does affect the value slightly in favour of the buyer which is reflected in the asking price of R 2 250 000 instead of R 2 700 000 for a numbers matching example in similar condition.
The current owner commissioned Crossley & Webb to carry out a bare metal respray which was completed in April 2017. Prior to this, the Mercedes had a major service and mechanical refurbishment carried out by a well-known Mercedes-Benz specialist in Cape Town. Both operations total well over R 250 000.
This is a stunning well-sorted example of a timeless classic which through its ease of use and brisk performance will aid the growth of the classic car market by appealing to buyers who traditionally only purchase modern sportscars.
