what makes the LEXUS LFA special?

Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show in 2009. The Lexus LFA realised the vision of chief engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi to be a global icon for the Lexus brand. It is the first production V 10 ever produced in Japan and was assembled by hand using high end materials such as carbon fibre, titanium, magnesium and aluminium.

The howling all alloy V10 engine developed with Yamaha is regarded as a technological marvel. The rapid throttle response and sharp vocal exhaust note combine to provide one of the most exhilarating and unique driving experiences. The Lexus LFA’s V 10 engine can rev from 0 to 9000 rpm in only 0.6 seconds which is made possible by using variable valve timing, titanium valves, titanium connecting rods and 10 individual throttle bodies. A dry sump lubrication system was used to prevent oil starvation during high speed cornering and braking is via Brembo six piston calipers with carbon ceramic disks

The power train is a front engine, rear trans axle layout using a six speed sequential gearbox and power is fed to the rear wheels via a rigid carbon fibre torque tube. The chassis is a carbon fibre reinforced polymer tub with bolt on sub frame which assists the reduce weight to just over 1480 kg

Only 500 examples were produced which makes the Lexus LFA a must have limited edition supercar for any car collection
