The second-generation Alfa Romeo Spider started in 1970 with changes to the Pinninfarina designed first-generation Spider’s rounded “Boat Tail” design to the square Kamm tail. This resulted in increased luggage capacity and better aerodynamic efficiency. Other styling changes included:
Alfa Romeo replaced the powerplant of the 1750 Spider in 1971 with a 1962cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine, resulting in the change of name to the 2000 Veloce Spider. The engine change in the second-generation Spider resulted in a power increase to 132 BHP from 116 BHP of the 1750 Spider and is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The combination of the power increase and a low weight figure of just shy of 1000kg makes this a surprisingly agile performer and a joy to drive.
This Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider is an ex-Johannesburg example which we first sold in 2014. It has always been one of the best examples we have come across and was sold again by us to the current owner in 2018.
It has had little use since then and benefitted from a recommissioning service late last year which included:
This is an opportunity to source a sorted example that presents well above the average examples and can be enjoyed from day one. The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider is a fun car to drive with spirited performance and presents particularly good value for money.
This example is available for viewing at the Crossley & Webb showroom in Gardens Cape Town
