The Audi A8L Security is the epitome of class, luxury and technology and is the Flagship in the Audi Range. This combined with a 6.3 litre W12 engine, the 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s famous Quattro all-wheel drive system means that it also has the diversity of performance and handling to match. Pushing out 493 BHP and 625nm of torque the Security A8 accelerates to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds which is impressive considering the 3.5 Tons of weight being driven which gives it enough performance to get out of any situation.

Whilst providing the ultimate in private vehicle security, the 2013 Audi A8 represents the third generation of Audi’s flagship model and comes equipped with more smarts and sophistication than a Harvard Graduate:

The Audi A8 L Security, the high-security version of the luxury sedan, meets the highest level of criteria that apply to civilian vehicles. An array of high-security equipment features complement the amour plating and has been formally approved and certified by the German Ballistics Testing Centre in Munich.

The A8L Security has VR7 graded armour which has been classed as the strictest in high-end security sedans. The A8L Security is secured with a combination of highly resistant materials which include:

• Heat-formed armour steel
• Aramide fabric
• Ceramic
• A special aluminium alloy
• Multi-laminated glass
• The aluminium side sills have been enhanced with solid steel sections which proved to be effective against explosive weapons such as hand grenades during the testing process.
• It also has a splinter-inhibiting polycarbonate layer on the inside of the windscreen, door windows and rear window to further prevent any form of penetration through those areas.

Other additional security measures were added to the A8L Security which include:

• Emergency exit system which can be engaged by pressing on a tamperproof switch and by pulling the inner passenger door handles, will detach the pyrotechnical separating screws from the hinges, detaching the door from the body and enabling the passenger to push the door open with ease.
• The fire extinguisher system which can be activated by the heat sensors or by the push of a button.
• A smoke extractor for the passenger compartment.
• A siren

• LED signaling system for convey travel.

• Heated windshield with partially heated side windows

The example offered is a 2013 model A8L W12 Security and has covered an extremely low 15935km from new. Importantly, this car is a full Manufacturer produced armoured vehicle as opposed to a retrofitted variation which ensures the highest quality of production and level of security.

This unit was brought into South Africa to be showcased at the Johannesburg Motor show and was subsequently snapped up by a VIP client in 2015. Following a year of ownership, the car was then run by a Foreign Government for 2016 and 2017. Since 2017 the car has been under covered and secure parking and been used occasionally by security aware Directors and Management.
