The Audi Quattro was developed by a group of Audi engineers using the Volkswagen Iltis Military vehicle as a test bed (which later won the 1980 Paris Dakar Rally).
First launched at the 1980 Geneva show, the Audi Ur (original) Quattro was the first four-wheel drive sportscar and pioneered the use of this technology in other road cars
Audi’s platform to communicate the benefits of the Quattro drivetrain was the World Rally Championship. The Rally car was homologated by putting the Quattro road car into production and the benefits of four-wheel drive in rallying cemented Audi’s technological advantage securing Audi two World Rally Championships
The 2.2l 5-cylinder Turbo produced almost 200 BHP making the Ur Quattro both a fast and practical sports car
The Ur Quattro is the most important car in Audi’s history and the start of the successful performance models of today
With only 11 452 units produced over 11 years and with this model’s motorsport heritage and importance in Audi’s history, the Audi Ur Quattro is a very collectible and significant car for collectors.
This is a 1989 example with the 10 valve MB spec engine (no 20 valve examples were imported to South Africa). It has been in long term ownership in Cape Town prior to being purchased by us.
It has recently had cosmetic and mechanical overhaul (all new suspension bushes, sub frame removed & refurbished) plus a major service including differential oils, engine oil, filters and plugs replaced.
