The Mercedes Benz SL, Sport Light, was first launched in 1954 and caused a sensation with its Gullwing doors and motorsport derived technology.

The third generation SL, the R 107, followed the Mercedes Benz SL tradition of front engine, rear wheel drive with an incredibly smooth, luxurious & now powerful package. The 500sl was manufactured between 1980 and 1989. It’s all aluminium 5.0 V8 produced 237 BHP with 402 nm torque which powered the 500sl to a top speed of 225 km/h

The 500sl’s advanced driving dynamics, solidity and ease of use were in a different league compared to its W113 Pagoda predecessor. The values of the W113 Pagodas have increased steadily over the last ten years with the values of the R 107’s following due to the popularity of 1980’s modern classics or “Youngtimers” as they are also known.

The local market R 107 Mercedes Benz SL’s were assembled in South Africa

This time warp example has only covered 32 800 km from new with the original books and service records indicating first delivery in 1984 to Mr. F Lubbe of Southbroom Kwa Zulu Natal.

It was ordered in Anthracite grey with cream interior with the optional hardtop roof added.

This 500sl has recently been recommissioned with the following items being attended to:

• Fuel tank removed and relined
• Fuel pump and filter replaced
• Major service completed – oil, filters, spark plugs etc.
• Exhaust system leak repaired
• New tyres fitted

Blemishes on the car are:

• Windscreen chip - (cannot be repaired)
• Three stone chips on bonnet
• Chip on Right front headlight
• Paint imperfection on Left rear fender
• Small pitting on chrome on both door handles and rear boot trim
• Small dent on front Mercedes Benz emblem
