This (D series) car, chassis number 9111120637, is one of 1934 911 T’s produced by Karmann in 1971 and is paired to a correct 911 T engine with number 61000840 (originally 6110667). This Porsche 911 T was delivered new by AMAG in Switzerland in 1971 and was in regular use until the mid 2000’s when the car was taken off the road for restoration. The restoration was not completed when the current owner purchased the car in 2016 together with a partial service history dating back to the 1990’s.
From 2016 to 2019, Bailey Cars in Boksburg near Johannesburg professionally executed a nut and bolt bare metal restoration sparring no expense. A comprehensive mechanical overhaul enhanced the visceral connection with the road common to pre 1973 Porsche 911’s
Bodywork:
The car was examined for structural damage and rust. No issues were detected. When car was taken down to bare metal it was visible that several panels had minor rust damage or had been modified. Replacement panels were sourced from the leading international specialist in automotive heritage parts, Dansk.
Panels replaced include:
- Floor panels
- Parcel shelf
- Rear engine lid
- The bonnet
- Front fenders
The car was media blasted by a specialist and treated with chromate to prevent future rust. The 911 T was then painted in its original Conda Green colour (code 26).
Engine and gearbox:
The engine was rebuilt by Hi Tech engines (Peter Frost). During the build, extended sleeves and pistons were fitted to increase the 2.2l engine capacity to the desirable 2.4l configuration. The engine was setup and dyno tuned prior to installation The gearbox was overhauled and reconditioned, a new exhaust system fitted and a new fuel pump fitted
