The Audi Quattro was developed by a group of Audi engineers using the Volkswagen Iltis Military vehicle as a test bed. First launched at the 1980 Geneva show, the Audi Ur (original) Quattro was the first four-wheel drive sportscar and pioneered the use of this technology in other road cars. Audi’s platform to communicate the benefits of the Quattro drivetrain was the World Rally Championship. The Rally car was homologated by putting the Quattro road car into production and the benefits of four-wheel drive in rallying cemented Audi’s technological advantage securing Audi two World Rally Championships
The Audi S2 Quattro is the successor to the Audi Quattro. It is powered by the 2.2l five-cylinder Turbocharged engine producing 220 BHP and has a permanent four-wheel drive system and five speed manual gearbox. Performance was impressive for the time with 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 246km/h. The S2 was the first 'S' branded car produced by Audi which laid the foundations for the success of the brand over the next 30 years. Only 9488 examples were produced of which only 7370 were coupes.
This Example was first delivered on the 19th of December 1991 by Beachway Volkswagen Durban. It is in very good unmodified condition and has only covered 56 500km. It was purchased by the current owner from a Johannesburg based collector in August 2018 and its original owner’s manual and service booklets are present. The most recent service was in July 2025 which included spark plugs, air and fuel filters. We have completed a paint correction to remove swirls and imperfections in the paintwork, and the ABS pump is busy being refurbished at our cost
The Audi S2 is a rare, sought after, fast and versatile modern classic especially:
