The first-generation BMW 6 Series, introduced in 1976 as the successor to the E9, was designed to blend BMW’s sporty heritage with the elegance of a grand touring coupe. While it quickly became a legend, it was the 635CSi that truly solidified the 6 Series’ place in automotive history. As part of the E24 lineup, the 635CSi emerged as a standout of the 1980s. It offered a remarkable mix of luxury, performance, and distinctive design.

What sets this BMW 635 CSI apart from others is that this is what collectors call a “Time Warp" car.

A “Time Warp” car is a remarkable survivor that offers a glimpse into how the car looked and drove when it was new. Factors that determine a time warp car include:

  • Low Mileage: A key characteristic is extremely low mileage for the car's age. This indicates minimal use and preservation.
  • Original Condition: Time warp cars retain as many of their original components as possible. This can include:
      • Paint
      • Interior upholstery
      • Engine components
      • Even original fluids in some very rare cases.
  • Historical Significance: Often, these cars are models that hold a special place in automotive history.

All the above factors apply to this 1982 BMW 635 CSI. According to the original service booklets, this example was delivered on the 10th of February 1982 via Auto Bavaria (Pty) Ltd in Oxford Road Rosebank Johannesburg. The first owner ordered this BMW 635 CSI in Cyprus Green with Beige interior and specified the manual gearbox.

Excluding the BMW M 635CSi, roughly 6,201 right hand drive units were produced of which 1,292 were manual gearbox cars. Cyprus Green is an exceptionally rare colour option and it's reasonable to estimate that only about 30 to 60 examples exist, especially with the desirable manual gearbox.

The first owner sold this BMW 635 CSI to the current owner (a family friend) in 2005 when it had approximately 50 000km on the clock. The current owner over the next 20 years has covered only a further 21 800km with total mileage now at 71 800km.

This Cyprus Green BMW 635CSi RHD manual is a highly collectible and exclusive piece of BMW history and is an opportunity not to be missed by discerning collectors.
