Porsche introduced the 944 for the 1982 model year, the 944 Turbo in 1986 and the 944 S2 in 1989. The Porsche 944 S2 was powered by a 3-litre, 208bhp, naturally aspirated engine, the largest production four-cylinder at the time. The Porsche 944 S2 had a nearly even front-to-rear weight distribution (50.7% front/49.3% rear) courtesy of the rear transaxle balancing out the engine in the front.
When Porsche introduced the 944 S2 Cabriolet, it was the first 944 to feature a convertible body style. The 944 S2's body was manufactured by ASC (American Sunroof Company) in Weinsberg, Germany. Right-hand-drive units were produced for the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. The Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet is a fun modern classic with the front-engine rear-wheel-drive transaxle layout which results in an enjoyable, well-balanced driving experience.
This Porsche 944 S2 Convertible is a low mileage well maintained example with a comprehensive record of service stamps in its booklet. A service was completed by an independent Porsche specialist in June this year (165 297km) and the cambelts and brake fluid were replaced in November 2019 (159236km). In addition, the owner had a new soft top roof ordered and fitted towards the end of 2020
According to the RC1 (registration paper) on record, this example was first registered in 1992 and reflects "Used". It has been in current ownership for almost four years with the registration document and duplicate service book showing that this example spent most of its life in Gauteng with it moving to Cape Town in 2018
