The Triumph TR5 is a sports car built by the Triumph Motor Company in Coventry England between 1968 and 1969. It is part of the successful Triumph TR sportscar range which capitalized on the post war demand for British sportscars (TR2, TR3, TR4, TR5, TR6 & TR7).
The TR5 combines the allure of the Michelotti designed Triumph TR4 with the performance of the Karmann designed TR6. Giovanni Michelotti, a designer closely associated with Italian design house Vignale, designed notable cars such as the Ferrari 166 Barchetta, Maserati Sebring and several Triumphs including the TR4 and TR5.
The Triumph TR5 is very rare and the most sought-after Triumph TR sportscar due to a combination of low production numbers, performance of its 6-cylinder engine and its independent suspension which enhanced its enjoyable drive. The 150 BHP 2.5l inline 6 cylinder engine with Lucas fuel injection turned the TR into a performance car. Standard equipment included front disc brakes, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four speed gearbox with wire wheels and overdrive optional extras.
This Triumph TR5 is one of only 1,161 original right hand drive cars built. It is a high spec example with the optional overdrive and wire wheels fitted. It has been owned by the current owner for almost 8 years and is in excellent well-preserved condition.
