AMG was founded in 1967 by two ex-Mercedes Benz engineers Aufrecht and Melcher in Großaspach 30 minutes north of Stuttgart. They began by building racing engines for the 300se and found fame when their 428 BHP 300 SEL 6.8-litre AMG known as the “Red Pig” won its class at the 1971 Spa 24 hours.
Other than racing, AMG tuned Mercedes engines with their experience from the racetrack systematically applied to production cars.
The AMG treatment for the Mercedes Benz A124 series was offered on a special request basis only and included:
The result is an increase in power from 217 BHP to 268 BHP and a torque increase from 195lb ft to 232 lb ft.
This Mercedes Benz A124 AMG E34 is based on the pre facelift 300ce 24 Cabriolet. It was built to special order when new by AMG in Germany.
It is known that only 25 300ce 24 3.4 coupes were built between 1988 and 1993 but the cabrio was a special-order model with even fewer produced.

This example was brought to South Africa with its German owners and appears to have had only two subsequent owners since. It has covered only 87 500km, comes with its original service books documenting the maintenance history and is in excellent condition.
