Sir Jackie Stewart called it “The Green Hell”, and Mercedes Benz have given the AMG GTR’s signature colour the same name. This nickname was given to the Nurburgring, the legendary 154 corner 20km track built in 1927 which winds its way through the wooded forests of the Eifel mountains.
No longer a Formula One track, the Nurburgring is now the revered testing ground for all major performance car brands with the fastest lap time carrying major importance.
it is clear that the Mercedes Benz AMG GTR has been built to conquer the legendary track and it is known as the “Beast of the Green Hell.”
Based on the AMG GT and developed entirely by the AMG Division, the following key elements were required for the AMG GTR to conquer the 20km track.
The AMG GTR boasts enhanced aerodynamics, suspension, and the improved twin turbo 4.0L M178 V8 engine capable of delivering 577HP and 700nm of torque. Revered by the press as the best turbo engine at the time. This allowed the Mercedes Benz AMG GTR to set a time of 7:10,92 at the Nurburgring and is a great achievement for a car selling for under R 3 000 000 today …. and worthy of the association
