The production of the Mercedes Benz R107 SL (Sport Light) range began in April 1971 and continued until 1989 with different engine and transmission options available. Designed by the original 300SL designer, Friedrich Geiger, the R107 was the replacement for the successful W113 “Pagoda” series and came with a soft-top and an optional hard top along with optional foldable rear seats to provide more flexibility.
The Mercedes Benz 300SL was officially released in 1985 and went on to be produced until 1989, replacing the 280SL. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0L straight six engine and coupled to either a 3 or 4 speed automatic sending 187 BHP to the rear wheels. Performance was also optimized when Mercedes introduced the Bosch KE Jetronic engine management system in 1985. The late production R 107 series SL’s are amongst the most desirable modern classics, especially the 300sl, due to their refinement, ease of use and iconic classic Mercedes Benz elegance
This Mercedes Benz R107 series is a 300SL that was produced in 1988 and finished in Diamond Blue Metallic with grey leather interior and a soft top roof in blue. The accompanying hard top is finished in Diamond Blue metallic.
Optional extras that were specified include:
The original book set with comprehensive service history is present which indicates that it spent its early life in Johannesburg with two previous owners. It was purchased by its present Cape Town owner approximately 10 years ago and was resprayed around this time as the quality of the clear coat had deteriorated. Since then, it has been regularly maintained and is one of the best examples known to us
A great opportunity to own one the most desirable Mercedes Benz roadsters.
