One of our favourite annual car runs took place on the 2nd of February 2020. The Kalk Bay Veteran run is for 100 year and older cars.
The first Kalk Bay run took place on the 21st of December 1901 to celebrate the establishment of the Automobile Club of South Africa. The 1901 route was from Greenmarket square to Kalk Bay and back. The current route sees the competitors meet up at the Crankhandle Club in Wynberg Village for the first stop at Kalk Bay harbour and then on to Simons Town.
Notable cars included the 1901 Benz Ideal, the 1902 Wolseley, the 1907 Nordenfeldt, a 1912 EMF 30 Roadster, the beautiful off white 1912 Rover Colonial and the newly imported Olive green 1911 Sunbeam
Vintage motorcycle entrants included a 1913 BAT, 1914 Douglas, a 1914 New Hudson and a 1917 Indian.
